90:364 Sociology of Emotions [Grills]

Prerequisite: 6 credit hours of Sociology at the 100-level, or permission of Instructor.

Emotion and emotionality are central qualities of the human condition. To be able to love, to grieve, and to experience justified anger is learned through the human associations that are crucial to the development of socially legitimate emotionality. This course examines the cultural basis of emotion in everyday life. Particular attention is paid to gender and the symbolic expression of emotion.
