The study of masculinity, men, and maleness is a recent turn in literary and cultural studies. “Between Men” proposes to study masculinity in literary texts, largely from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Students will be familiarized with theories of masculinity, particularly literature and masculinity, and a range of texts that explore the complexity of masculinity, or that need to be re-read in light of theories of masculinity and maleness.
