In this class we examine the structures and properties of individual atoms and molecules from the viewpoint of quantum chemistry and explain how their structures are determined experimentally using spectroscopic techniques. Lastly, the concepts of the microscopic world will be merged with the concepts of the macroscopic world resulting in statistical thermodynamics where the bulk thermodynamic properties encountered in 18:260 can be more fully explained.
The laboratory will focus on computational chemistry and spectroscopic applications.
