Prerequisite: 65:268 or permission of Instructor.
This course will explore the fundamental elements of composition in a jazz context. Aspects such as melodic development, harmonic movement, rhythmic language, timbre and orchestration, and modern techniques such as electronic music and principles, including the recording arts and is impact on modern compositional techniques, will be explored. Course content and assignments will include analysis of scores, listening examples, writing assignments, and performances of student compositions.
