18:491 Molecular Medicine [Charette]

Prerequisite: 15:282 and 18:363.

Recent advances in medicine have been made through the discovery of the underlying molecular basis of disease. These fundamental discoveries in biochemistry and molecular biology have furthered our understanding of the molecular structures and mechanisms of life and of their errors in disease. Through the use of peer-reviewed primary literature and review articles, this advanced seminar course will provide students with the opportunity to examine, in detail, discoveries in biochemistry and molecular biology that have illuminated the molecular basis of disease and suggested new molecular therapies to correct them. Topics will vary from year to year and will be chosen from recent high-impact discoveries.
