70:369 Philosophy of Science [Inkpen]

Prerequisite: Nil.

This course emphasizes the philosophy of empirical science, and involves a critical examination of various relations between empirical data, evidence, and theory. A number of historical examples will be discussed and some dominant views of how these items should be understood will be considered. Ideas from Newton, Einstein, the Positivists, Quine, Kuhn, and others may be considered.
