This course evaluates the relationship between religion and film on two levels. First, how do films attempt to represent sacred beliefs, rituals, and communities? Second, how does the viewing of a film contribute to the construction of religious identity for individuals and communities? The dynamics (and the social and political implications) of representation, interpretation and construction of doctrine will be explored.
