A critical examination of some main philosophical interpretations of the historical process and its broader context, including its relation to prehistory. A selection of authors both classical and contemporary may be considered including authors such as Thucydides, Augustine, Vico, Herder, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Toynbee, Spengler, and Niebuhr.
