This course will examine aspects of basic and applied parasite biology with a focus on organisms of medical and veterinary importance. The course will address host-parasite relationships, transmission strategies, parasite biochemistry and molecular biology, and parasite genetics. These topics will be discussed in the context of ecology and evolution, epidemiology and public health, and disease control and management. The laboratory will focus on diagnostic techniques and treatment of parasitic infections.
